Arsenal confirmed a big boost on Thursday.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta revealed that Kieran Tierney is among the injured players who is ahead of schedule to return to first-team action.
Arsenal had earlier announced that they expect the Scotland international back in training within two to three weeks.
Tierney has been a rock for the Emirates Stadium club this season and has been one of their best players throughout what’s been an otherwise very testing first full year in charge for Arteta, whose troops are ninth in the Premier League.
This is also a big boost for Scotland, who are making their first appearance at a major competition since 1998 this summer for Euro 2020.
Here’s what Charlie Adam said to PLZ Soccer about the news: “That’ll be a great bonus for him. I didn’t think he’d be out for the rest of the season but it’d be a worry for him. We’ve just got to pray as a Scotland fan that he’ll get through the next couple of weeks and then get a few games. It’s a big boost.”
Tierney, a £25 million signing during Unai Emery’s reign at Arsenal almost two years ago [BBC Sport], has been hampered by injury quite a bit since arriving in North London.
This isn’t his first injury and more than likely won’t be his last.
It’s important for Arsenal to sign a quality left-back to cover the former Celtic star during the summer.
Granit Xhaka has done a decent job deputising for him in recent weeks but really, the Swiss star is a midfielder and that’s where he is much better suited long term.
