Arsenal haven’t actually made an offer for Sander Berge, Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom has told Yorkshire Live.
Recent reports have claimed that Arsenal have already made an offer for the central midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.
However, it seems that these claims are wide of the mark.
Berge may still be an option for Arsenal, as they look to add quality to their squad this summer.
But the Gunners are yet to actually make an official bid for Berge, according to Heckingbottom’s latest update.
“No, no offers,” Heckingbottom said.
“We know how things work.
“If there is anything happening for our players it’s bubbling away behind the scenes until windows open and things can possibly happen, but it is all paper talk.
“Most of the questions you get asked about possible targets never ever comes to fruition.
“Ninety-odd percent of it will never surface.
“At the minute it is all just rumour and speculation.
“We’ve had no bids for our players.”
Despite Heckingbottom’s update, if Arsenal were to make an offer for Berge in the future it wouldn’t be a huge surprise.
The Gunners are likely to be looking to strengthen in midfield this summer, as they look to find an ideal partner for Thomas Partey.
Dani Ceballos’ loan spell is set to end, while there are doubts over the likes of Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi’s futures.
If all four do depart then Arsenal will certainly need a new midfield and Berge could be a solid option.
The Blades midfielder possesses great energy and technical ability, and despite Heckingbottom’s side facing relegation this term, it is widely felt that he has the ability to cope with playing in the Premier League, from his showings over the past two years.
