It may not have received the attention of moves for Marc Guéhi and Michael Olise, but Crystal Palace have just completed another signing.
20-year-old Jake O’Brien has moved to Selhurst Park on a permanent basis from Cork City, following a loan spell with the Eagles.
Now, Colin Healy – manager of Cork City – has spoken about the towering centre-back.
What did he say?
As quoted by Cork City’s official website, Healy said: “He is a great lad and a credit to his family; he always worked exceptionally hard in training every day, and he deserves this opportunity.
“We have come to an agreement that we believe represents a good deal for all parties and we look forward to following Jake’s career with interest.”

Well, that’s glowing praise from Healy, to say the least.
By the sounds of it, Crystal Palace have a gem on their hands.
How has Jake O’Brien fared so far?
While on loan last season, the Irishman impressively scored three goals in 11 Premier League 2 games from centre-back.
His efforts helped Crystal Palace achieve promotion to the first division with a play-off final win over Sunderland at Selhurst Park.
Additionally, O’Brien featured under Patrick Vieira in pre-season training, where he certainly held his own.

After returning to the Under-23 setup, the youngster scored again when netting the opener against Leeds on Monday.
So far, O’Brien has done plenty to suggest he has a bright future in SE25.
