Speaking on The View From The Lane Podcast, Charlie Eccleshare has divulged what he’s been told after Tottenham’s £150m capital injection this week.
Spurs have received a massive financial boost this week as the owners announced that they’re putting £150m into the club.
Many wondered what this would mean for Spurs and their summer transfer window, and according to Eccleshare, the intention within the club is for this money to go towards transfers.
What’s been said?
Eccleshare shared what he’s heard.
“it’s been described to us as unequivocally good news, to which a lot of people have said ‘how can that be? It’s Spurs, there must be a catch’, but I think that is the case and from what we’ve been told, the intention is for this money to go towards transfers, the proverbial war chest, so it’s all upside,” Eccleshare said.
Biggest spenders
If this is true, Tottenham could well be the biggest spenders in Europe this summer.
£150m is already a massive sum to be working with, but that’s before we even begin to factor in the anticipated sales of players such as Steven Bergwijn, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks.
If even a percentage of the money raised from the sales of those players goes into the budget, Tottenham could well be looking at a £200m window, and that should be enough to build a team capable of challenging for the very top honours in England and in Europe.
Of course, it’s now all down to Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte to identify and purchase players who are going to help Spurs get to that next level.
Tottenham are certainly a team to keep an eye out for this summer.
