It was just a matter of time.
Azzedine Ounahi was the breakout star of the 2022 World Cup, and just days after Morocco’s exit from the tournament, the 22-year-old is the subject of numerous transfer offers.
The youngster has been linked to the likes of Newcastle, West Ham and Wolves, and now, Angers’ president Said Chabane has confirmed that many bids have come in for his player, including from clubs in England.
Ounahi bids are in
The Ligue 1 club’s chief admitted that he’s been approached for Ounahi.
“We’ve many bids, we’ve been approached by big clubs in Italy, Spain, England, France,” Chabane said to RTL France (via Fabrizio Romano).
“Our wish is to complete an agreement now but keep the player until the end of the season.”
Risky to loan back
It sounds as though Angers will want a loan agreement for Ounahi if they are to sell him in January, and that’s a risk for any buying club.
The player’s stock is so high right now due to the fact he’s riding high off the back of a brilliant World Cup. Any buying club will surely want to harness that momentum and help him kick on.
Another six months at Angers could potentially see Ounahi slip back into obscurity after a wonderful World Cup, and it would certainly put a dampener on everything.
Of course, if he is truly as talented as he looked in Qatar, he’ll be worth the wait, but as with any signing made after a tournament, there’s an element of risk attached here.
One thing is for sure though, Ounahi is in a purple patch right now, and he could hit the ground running if he’s signed up early in January.
