Their first league win came in the second game as Michail Antonio’s late goal secured a narrow 1-0 win against Bournemouth.

Once again, West Ham’s Europa League campaign would end before the group-stages as Astra Giurgiu came away from the London Stadium with a 1-0 win on the night and a 2-1 victory on aggregate.

A 3-1 defeat to Manchester City came in their next game. While few would have expected anything else, the loss signalled the beginning of a mini-run of defeats.

The most disappointing loss of the four from that spell was the home defeat against Watford. Antonio had put West Ham 2-0 up but the Hornets scored four times to win 4-2. The same scoreline occurred one week later against West Brom.

With Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool ahead in their next four league games, Bilic will desperately need his side to be at their best if they hope to stay out of the bottom three over the coming weeks.
