West Ham’s Sam Byram explains why Moyes’ appointment came at the wrong time

West Ham United have made huge strides since the Scot’s appointment as manager.

Hammers ace Sam Byram explained why David Moyes’ appointment as manager at the London Stadium came at a really bad time for him personally, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website.

The Scot took the reigns at West Ham following Slaven Bilic’s sacking last month, at a time when the 24-year-old full-back was unfit and unavailable for selection.

Byram joined the Hammers from Leeds United in January 2016, for a fee believed to be in the region of £4 million, but has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at the club, making just 15 Premier League starts.

A succession of niggling injuries certainly haven’t helped him in that aspect, however, and he will be hoping for a fresh start, and a sustained run of games when he returns back to his physical peak.

Byram spoke exclusively to WHUFC.com, and highlighted how the timing of his injury, along with Moyes’ arrival at the club could not have been any worse:

“I’m feeling good. It’s been a frustrating one. The timing, with a new manager coming in, has been frustrating, because I would have liked to have been able to show him what I can do and get a chance. However, I’m over the worst of it now. I’m back outside running, and I’ve just started integrating the footballs as well. It’s not going to be long before I’m back training with the lads and helping out. I just want to get myself fit, help the team in any way I can, and impress the new manager.”

With Pablo Zabaleta ahead of Byram in the right-back pecking order at West Ham, the 24-year-old has his work cut-out, if he is to force his way back into the side when he returns back to full fitness

Whether Moyes is prepared to give him a chance remains to be seen, and if he finds his playing time limited when he returns to action, a January loan move away from the London Stadium might be the ideal scenario for both the club and the player.
