West Ham United lost 2-1 at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.
West Ham United defender Ryan Fredericks has told the club’s official website that losing to Crystal Palace is simply not good enough.
The Hammers hosted their London rivals on Saturday evening, and entered the game in great form having gone six league games unbeaten.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side took the lead, as Fredericks bombed down the right flank and picked out Sebastien Haller to score, putting West Ham 1-0 up.
West Ham would have gone third with a win, but ended up throwing the game away, firstly conceding a penalty, which was scored by Patrick van Aanholt.
Jordan Ayew then clinched all three points late on, with a goal that was initially ruled out for offside, then given thanks to VAR as Palace secured the win.
West Ham will be baffled as to how they managed to throw that game away, and defender Fredericks offered a strong reaction to the defeat.
Fredericks suggested that West Ham’s squad is ‘way too good’ to be aiming to top ten or top eight, claiming that they have a squad on a par with top six clubs.
With that in mind, Fredericks offered the brutally honest verdict that West Ham ‘definitely’ need to be winning these games if they’re to really fulfil their potential, adding that he’s gutted not to have claimed third place.
“We definitely need to be winning these games if we want to be challenging for the top six,” said Fredericks. “Our squad is way too good to be aiming just for the top ten or top eight. We need to be higher up in the table.”
“We’ve got just as good a squad as some of the other so-called top six and that’s where we want to be. If we had won the game today, I think we’d have been in third, so we’re gutted,” he added.
