West Ham United appear set to finish the transfer window as one of the Premier League’s big winners.

It is less than five months since West Ham’s Premier League clash with Burnley descended into farce when many of the Hammers fans let their frustrations boil over inside the London Stadium as the Clarets claimed a 3-0 win that probably left many believing that David Moyes’ men were destined for the drop.
While some supporters clearly crossed the line – literally, as well as metaphorically – and went too far, many had sympathy for the large majority of fans who simply felt that too many promises had been broken by the owners and the Irons were heading backwards at an alarming rate.

However, with the new campaign emerging quickly on the horizon, the mood appears to have changed significantly. And the owners do deserve praise for the work that has been done this summer to make the change happen.
The first statement saw Manuel Pellegrini appointed as Moyes’ successor, and a number of exciting signings have been made. The likes of Felipe Anderson and Jack Wilshere have arrived and it looks as though the Hammers are going to be deemed one of the big winners when the deadline comes and goes this month.
And, while it is probably not one of their biggest statements this summer, it seems fair to say that the West Ham board have provided another indication that they are determined to oversee significant progress with their reported change in stance regarding Domingos Quina’s future.

Quina has not managed to regularly break into the first-team, but he is clearly a huge talent who could be a fantastic player if he heads down the right path at this stage of his career.
If he stays and West Ham help him realise his potential, the fans will be delighted that the club did not cash in. It seems to make so much more sense to keep him and roll the dice in the hope that he will sign a new contract and become a top player rather than sell him.
If he does not realise that potential or ends up leaving next summer, West Ham will have simply missed out on £600,000. Based on some of the sums that they have reportedly spent during this window, that figure would not be game-changing for the Irons by any means.
It appears that the board have decided to take a long-term view on Quina’s future. That is clearly the right decision, and is another – perhaps small – indicator that the club are moving forward.
