The Irons christened their new home at the Olympic Stadium with a dramatic win over the Cherries, in which Antonio pounced late on to snatch the victory.

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith described the atmosphere as “flat” to Sky Sports in reference to the atmosphere during West Ham’s Premier League bow in the Stratford-based arena and he is not the only one to have commented.

But the 26-year-old Antonio is happy with the Hammers’ new home and is especially enthused about how fans greeted his late winner.

“There were so many gaps at the Boleyn Ground. But here the archways come over the stands and brings it onto the pitch,” he told Bleacher Report, via The Standard.

“Especially when I scored – the roar was outrageous. It’s a new ground, it’s a new feel – we’re trying to turn it into a fortress.”

It took a little for Arsenal to get used to their new home at the Emirates 10 years ago, and it might well be similar for the Irons.

Slaven Bilic’s side are back at the Olympic Stadium on Thursday to host Astra Giurgiu in a Europa League playoff, before then travelling to Manchester City on Sunday.
