West Ham United visit Manchester United on Sunday eying a first Premier League win over the Red Devils since 2019. Manuel Pellegrini’s XI beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s at home 2-0.
Goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell dealt the damage as the Irons claimed a rare three points. The win was only West Ham’s third triumph over Manchester United in the top-flight since 2007. The Old Trafford outfit had won 14 of their other 19 encounters.

Manchester United have also won each of their past four Premier League meetings ahead of this Sunday’s game. West Ham claimed their only point since beating the Red Devils 2-0 in September 2019 with a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in July 2020 via a Michail Antonio penalty.

Pellegri oversaw West Ham’s last Premier League win over Manchester United
Pellegrini oversaw West Ham’s last Premier League win over Manchester United in 2019. It also put the Irons above the Red Devils in the early table amid a solid start to their season. The Hammers had 11 points through the first six games, while Solskjaer’s squad took eight.
West Ham were seven points worse off and 12 spots lower in the table at the same stage of the 2018/19 campaign. But they enjoyed the spoils of a match that had limited chances in the early stages. Yarmolenko eventually broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time.
The Ukraine winger caused regular problems for the visiting Manchester United defenders. Eventually, he got his goal with a composed, low finish beyond David de Gea. Yet Cresswell would not put the result to bed until the 84th minute with a free-kick into the top corner.
Juan Mata came close to equalising two minutes after the break but could not hit Andreas Pereira’s delivery goal bound. Rashford also looked shot of confidence before he withdrew from the action with a groin injury. Harry Maguire also wasted a late header from a corner.
David Moyes will hope West Ham repeat Pellegrini’s result as they visit Manchester United on Sunday. The Irons have found form in recent weeks with three wins and a draw in their last five Premier League games. They won one and drew one of their first seven this term.
So, ahead of West Ham travelling to Old Trafford, HITC Football has looked at where the XI Pellegrini fielded for the Irons’ last Premier League win over Manchester United are now…

Lukasz Fabianski (GK): Poland star shut Manchester United out for a West Ham win
Lukasz Fabianski shut Manchester United out as West Ham sealed what remains their last Premier League win in the fixture. The 57-cap Poland international has so far recorded 38 clean sheets across 151 outings for the Hammers in all competitions since joining for £7m.
Ryan Fredericks (RB): Bournemouth signed the defender as a free agent in June
AFC Bournemouth signed Ryan Fredericks in June after securing their return to the Premier League. The right-back secured a free transfer to the south coast after leaving east London after four years. Pellegrini had signed the 30-year-old for free in 2018 after he left Fulham.
Issa Diop (CB): West Ham sold the Frenchman to Fulham during the summer
Fulham signed Issa Diop off West Ham in August for £15m after winning the Championship title last season. Pellegrini had made the Frenchman the Irons’ record signing in June 2018 from Toulouse for £22m. But the centre-half only went on to play in a total of 121 fixtures.
Angelo Ogbonna (CB): Italian has fallen to a reserve role after a serious injury
Angelo Ogbonna has only just fallen to a reserve role at West Ham this term after the 34-year-old sustained season-ending anterior cruciate ligament damage last November. The Italian has featured 210 times for the Irons since joining from Juventus for £10m in 2015.

Aaron Cresswell (LB): The defender’s free-kick sealed West Ham’s win in 2019
Cresswell’s free-kick sealed West Ham’s last Premier League win over Manchester United in 2019. The left-back has proven to be a set-piece specialist since joining the Irons in 2014 from Ipswich Town. He also has 10 goals and 35 assists in 307 outings for the Irons so far.
Declan Rice (CDM): West Ham captain will anchor England at the 2022 World Cup
Declan Rice was in his third season as a West Ham regular when Pellegrini’s XI won 2-0 at home to Manchester United in 2019. The Irons product has gone on to feature 212 times, hit 11 and assist 11 goals. He is now their captain and will anchor England at the World Cup.
Mark Noble (CM): Captained West Ham’s last league win over Manchester United
Mark Noble captained West Ham to their last Premier League win over Manchester United in 2019. The 35-year-old amassed 550 appearances, 62 goals and 60 assists in his career in east London. He is now the Irons’ sporting director after retiring from playing this summer.
Pablo Fornals (CM): Pellegrini signed the Spaniard from Villarreal in 2019
Pellegrini signed Pablo Fornals from Villarreal in June 2019 for £24m. The Spaniard signed a five-year contract at the London Stadium at the time and is yet to renew his deal. But the 26-year-old holds a frequent role in Moyes’ plans. He has so far made 148 outings in total.

Andriy Yarmolenko (RW): Al-Ain signed the winger following his West Ham release
UAE Pro League side Al-Ain signed Yarmolenko on a one-year contract this summer after Moyes released the 112-cap Ukraine captain. Pellegrini had bought the 33-year-old from Borussia Dortmund for £17.5m in 2018. But he would only play in 86 fixtures for 13 goals.
Sebastien Haller (ST): Ivory Coast star ranked 13th in the 2022 Ballon d’Or list
Pellegrini broke West Ham’s transfer record again in July 2019 to sign Sebastien Haller off Eintracht Frankfurt for £45m. But the Ivory Coast ace did not adapt to the Premier League. He did not fit Moyes’ system, either, and ultimately joined Ajax for £20m in January 2021.
Yet 18 months in Amsterdam with 47 goals and 16 assists in 66 games led to a £29m move to Borussia Dortmund this July. France Football also had the 28-year-old 13th for the 2022 Ballon d’Or. But he is yet to feature for BVB while receiving treatment for testicular cancer.
Felipe Anderson (LW): Brazilian is back at Lazio after his record West Ham move
West Ham fluttered the cash under Pellegrini in the summer of 2018 with Felipe Anderson joining for a club-record fee. The Brazilian left Lazio for £36m, rising to £41.5m, on a four-year contract. But the 29-year-old only saw out three before returning to Lazio for £2.5m.
The Irons also hold a 50% sell-on clause for the two-cap international. But the Hammers accepted a huge financial hit in 2021 after Anderson fell majorly out of favour. He offered 10 of his 12 goals and five of 13 assists in his first season in east London in 40 of 73 games.
