West Ham United are reportedly keen to sign Liverpool striker Danny Ings on loan during the January transfer window.
Ings’ time with Liverpool has been plagued by injury, so it would not be a surprise if the Hammers supporters were wary about the prospect of landing the 25-year-old on a temporary basis.
But with Ings impressing for the Reds’ under-23s, it may not be a bad move at all if West Ham manage to get a deal across the line, especially given the fortunes of the last Liverpool striker West Ham signed on loan.
Back in 2012, most Liverpool fans had written off the chances of Andy Carroll of ever justifying the eye-watering fee the Merseyside club had paid for him the year before – and he headed to Upton Park on a season-long loan with a real point to prove.
And it could certainly be argued that Carroll did impress during his loan spell, scoring seven times in 24 Premier League games to help the Irons finish 10th in the top flight.
Although Carroll’s form since his permanent move has not been as impressive, and relying on him to stay fit has seemingly become an impossible ask, there can surely be no doubt that that loan move was beneficial.
Ings will be desperate to prove to Liverpool if he does leave on loan that he still has something to offer the Reds – and that could be exactly what David Moyes’ men need over the coming months as they look to get themselves out of trouble in the top flight.
