Southampton should consider a summer move for the West Ham United hitman.

Mark Hughes, Manager of Southampton looks on priort to the Premier League match between Everton and Southampton at Goodison Park on May 5, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

Southampton boss Mark Hughes has a lot of work to do at St Mary’s this summer, if he is to guide his side to a successful Premier League campaign after their woeful 15th placed finish last term.

One particular area where Hughes will want to strengthen is his centre-forward department, with his side’s lack of goals last season almost costing them their Premier League status.

With this in mind, the Saints should attempt to sign Javier Hernandez from West Ham this summer.

The 30-year-old joined the Hammers from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £16 million, but he failed to establish himself as a regular first-team starter at the London Stadium.

That is not to say that the 102-capped Mexico international doesn’t have a lot to offer at the very highest level, though, and he would be a magnificent addition to the Southampton squad.

Chicharito possesses fantastic movement, and is most dangerous when operating in and around the 18-yard box – something that the Saints lack in their forward options.

He would be an excellent strike partner for Shane Long, what with the Irishman’s penchant for making unselfish runs into the channels.

With Manolo Gabbiadini’s future on the south coast growing increasingly more uncertain with every day that passes, Hernandez’s arrival at St Mary’s would be a welcome one, and he could go on to be a real hit for Southampton.
