The West Ham United striker struggled during his first season in east London.

West Ham star Javier Hernandez spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, and talked up the quality of Manuel Pellegrini, sharing what the Chilean told him regarding his future at the club before the start of the World Cup.
The 30-year-old joined the Hammers last summer from Bayer Leverkusen, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £16 million, but he struggled to establish himself at the London Stadium, scoring just eight times in 33 appearances in all competitions.
Under the guidance of Pellegrini, though, with more emphasis being placed on creative freedom in the middle of the park, Chicharito will surely have a better chance of succeeding than he did under the more rigid style of David Moyes.
He will have a renewed sense of confidence with a man with Pellegrini’s CV now at the helm, and this season might just be his time to shine.
Hernandez spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, and opened up on a conversation that he shared with the Chilean before the World Cup in Russia this summer:

“The manager called me before the World Cup because he knew my situation was difficult at the end of last season, and he made me feel very good. He told me I was going to be an important player and would play an important role in this team, so he gave me a lot of confidence.”
West Ham kick off their campaign with a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Sunday, and they will need Hernandez to be at his very best, if they are to have any chance of returning to east London with anything to show for their efforts.
