Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for James Maddison, but West Ham United have stolen a march with a bid.

According to a recent report from the Guardian, West Ham have stolen a march on the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham by making a £12 million bid for Norwich City starlet James Maddison.

Maddison has been excellent for the Canaries this term, scoring seven and contributing five assists – so it is absolutely no surprise that a number of Premier League sides are interested in handing him the chance to make the step up to the top flight.

Interestingly, the Daily Mirror reported earlier this month that Spurs and the Reds are waiting until the summer to make their move for the 21-year-old. But, even though the Guardian reports that West Ham’s bid falls short of Norwich’s valuation, perhaps the Irons’ offer should tempt Mauricio Pochettino to rethink his plans.

With so many teams reportedly in the running for his signature, perhaps the Hammers are hoping that they may be able to take advantage of Liverpool’s and Tottenham’s plans to make their moves in the summer and potentially land him during this window.

Maddison is showing the kind of form that will probably leave the sides that miss out in the race for his signature kicking themselves, so Spurs should perhaps accelerate their plans and make a move this month.

Losing out by not acting sooner would surely be a big blow, so Tottenham should look to enter the race earlier than planned and try and close the door that West Ham are hoping that they may now be opening by starting the bidding.
