West Ham United were taught a lesson by the Premier League champions on Saturday.
West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted that he’s a ‘massive fan’ of Manchester City and believes that they will retain their Premier League title.
The Irons were victimised by the genius of Pep Guardiola’s side on Saturday as the reigning champions cruised to a 5-0 win in East London.
Liverpool, who finished a point behind the Sky Blues last term, got their Premier League campaign off to a flier by beating Norwich 4-1 on Friday, but the Etihad Stadium club went one better in what was a serious statement of intent against West Ham.
Both of them are expected to be the main contenders for the title again this season, and here’s what the Hammers midfielder told The Mirror.
“I’m a massive fan of City. I like the way they play and keep the ball. But Liverpool play with more intensity and are more direct,” said the former Arsenal star.
“They don’t have the possession City have, but they are effective. You would go with City because they are the champions. But Liverpool are European champions.”
The good news for West Ham is that they only have to face Guardiola’s side once more in the Premier League.
Still, there’s no glossing over the fact that it was a horrendous result, even if it was against the best team in England, and Manuel Pellegrini needs to restore morale and confidence as soon as possible.
