West Ham United’s Issa Diop has impressed since arriving from Toulouse.
West Ham United defender Issa Diop has told La Depeche du Midi that it was ‘nice’ to receive praise from Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.
The Hammers may have lost 1-0 at Brighton and Hove Albion before the international break, but they turned in their best performance of the season in their previous game.
West Ham took on Manchester United at the London Stadium, and raced into a 2-0 lead before half time through Felipe Anderson and a Victor Lindelof own goal.
Marcus Rashford pulled one back before Marko Arnautovic sealed a 3-1 win, giving West Ham fans a glimpse of how they can perform under Manuel Pellegrini.
Whilst attackers Anderson, Arnautovic and Andriy Yarmolenko all impressed, United boss Mourinho preferred to praise Hammers centre back Diop instead.
Mourinho, as quoted by the London Evening Standard, suggested that Diop was a ‘monster’ against United, praising the West Ham scout who found him.
A big-money signing from Toulouse over the summer, Diop has thrived in the Premier League so far, and has now told La Depeche du Midi back in France that it was nice to be praised by Mourinho, but he isn’t his manager, and will keep his head screwed on rather than get carried away.
“Honestly, yes it’s nice but hey, he’s not my coach so that’s it,” said Diop. “I keep my head on my shoulders and I stay myself,” he added.
