West Ham United starlet Declan Rice is gearing up to earn his first cap for England.
Declan Rice has sent out a four-word message on Twitter after the West Ham star’s first day training with the England squad as he gears up to make his debut for Gareth Southgate’s men.
After months of speculation, Rice declared that he wished to switch his allegiances to the Three Lions after receiving a handful of caps for the Republic of Ireland.
And after an outstanding season at the London Stadium, the Hammers ace has immediately been called into the England senior side for their games against Czech Republic and Montenegro.
It would be a big surprise if the 20-year-old returned to the Irons without gaining his first cap for the World Cup semi-finalists. He has been fantastic in the middle of the park for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this season, and there is not a lot of competition for that holding role that he has performed in superbly within Southgate’s current side.
Rice has now had a taste of what will be like to play for England having now trained with Southgate’s side for the first time on Monday. And following his first day, he took to social media to comment on that first session.
He upset a lot of people with his decision to switch countries – though, not many English people had any complaints – so it is probably little surprise that he only sent out a brief message on Twitter, but his delight was still clear.
