West Ham United secured their first signing of the summer on Tuesday, snapping up striker Thierry Nevers.
The Hammers will be seeking first-team additions after qualifying for the Europa League, but they have started with a youngster.
Striker Nevers is arriving on a three-year contract, but there will be the option of another year on top of that.
The 19-year-old will likely join the Under-23 setup at West Ham, and joins for free after leaving Reading.
Nevers spent nine years with the Royals, and now leaves for a move to West Ham after three goals in nine Premier League 2 games this past season.
Capable of playing up front or on either flank, Nevers is described as being ‘razor-sharp’ in front of goal, and Academy Manager Ricky Martin has offered his view on the deal to the club’s official website.
Martin has claimed that West Ham have been tracking Nevers for a couple of seasons, meaning this was a deal years in the making.
Nevers actually scored against West Ham in a 3-3 draw last year, and Martin is excited to see him in claret and blue having been wanted for some time.
“I’m really excited to wish Thierry a warm welcome to West Ham United,” said Matin. “Thierry is someone that we’ve been following for the last couple of seasons. He’s put in some very impressive performances, and we’re really excited to introduce him to the U23s squad. We hope he will have a very successful career at the Hammers,” he added.
