The West Ham United man previously admitted to having a “soft spot” for Celtic.
Celtic fans on Twitter called for Brendan Rodgers to replace the “liability” that is Craig Gordon following an error during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Rapid Vienna in a pre-season friendly.
It might only have been a friendly, and few would read too much into it – unless of course it was the 34-year-old’s third error in less than a month.
Truth is, the Celtic goalkeeper was also partially to blame for both of England’s goals in the Three Lions’ 2-2 draw away to Scotland last month and Rodgers should, if he isn’t already, look to provide excellent competition for the veteran stopper before the season starts.
Could West Ham United’s Darren Randolph be an option?

The West Ham man made 22 Premier League starts last season but lost his number-one shirt to Adrian toward the end of the campaign.
Problem is, he won’t only be competing with the Spaniard next term, amid reports from The Telegraph that Slaven Bilic wants a new goalkeeper and is considering Joe Hart.
It is entirely possible that Randolph will be Bilic’s third-choice option for the 2017-18 season and, if that seems the case, the Republic of Ireland international should explore other opportunities.
Would the ex-Motherwell man consider a move to Celtic? If his comments 18 months ago are anything to go by, he just might.
Randolph told The Daily Mail: “I’ve never been involved in a team that’s had a good cup run and this season, of all seasons, it would be nice to have a good Cup run.
“There was the Scottish Cup final and we lost 3-0. We lost so it just stayed there. I don’t need to watch that back again. I have a little soft spot for Celtic but it didn’t hurt any less.”
He would not be guaranteed first-team football in Glasgow, but he is a better goalkeeper than Gordon and would provide much better competition than Dorus De Vries who, frankly, hasn’t set the world alight since joining the Hoops last summer.
