West Ham United drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with Cheikhou Kouyate impressing yet again.
West Ham United may rightly feel disappointed after seeing a famous White Hart Lane victory snatched away from them at the death. But despite Harry Kane’s last-gasp penalty the Hammers still had plenty to be proud of.
Not least among those things was the performance of summer signing Cheikhou Kouyate, who is blossoming into one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
Kouyate may be predominantly a defensive midfielder but he took his goal against Tottenham with the confidence of a seasoned striker, nodding the ball past Spurs’ goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and setting West Ham on their way to what looked like being a much-needed win.
That was the 25-year-old’s third goal of the season and when you consider how long it takes some players to acclimatise to a new country and a new league, Kouyate’s transition is all the more impressive.
He looks like he has been a West Ham player for years, and his all-round contribution against Tottenham was brilliant once again.

The West Ham midfielder had a passing accuracy of 82 per cent, perfectly illustrating his composure under pressure, while he won 13 battles (seven on the ground and four in the air).
He also won three interceptions, recovered the ball five times and made two effective clearances, and when you consider the Hammers were away from home it is clear just how good their Senegalese midfielder is.
