West Ham bid big to sign Tom Cairney last summer.

It is almost a year since West Ham made a big money approach for Fulham’s Tom Cairney. Now the club need to figure out if they still need him.
This came after a report in The Sun saying Fulham wanted £30 million for the midfielder.
Fulham winning promotion wiped out any chance West Ham realistically had of signing Cairney.
A force of nature in the Championship, Cairney has found it tough to replicate his form in the Premier League as Fulham endure a disastrous season.
The way it is going, West Ham have a good chance of landing Cairney in the summer.
Fulham appear to be heading back down to the Championship, in 19th place and seven points from safety.
Cairney himself has found it tough, failing to strike up an effective partnership with new signing Jean Michel Seri.

He has been picked to start only 13 of 26 Premier League games, and was only used as a late substitute in the 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.
West Ham need to figure out if they still need the 28-year-old.
Cairney’s value has depreciated at the price Fulham were asking after a poor season in the Premier League.
West Ham still need reinforcements in midfield with Mark Noble 31, but he is only three years older than Cairney.
The Hammers would find Cairney more use than the always injured Jack Wilshere, although Declan Rice’s emergence has calmed the urgency for midfield recruits.
This summer West Ham need to assess Cairney because at the right price he could become available if he decides he wants another crack at the Premier League.
