West Ham United have some players who are simply not pulling their weight at the moment, with Mark Noble and Aaron Cresswell generating the most criticism after their 3-2 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

While the Hammers skipper’s form has been dire for quite some time, it is widely expected that Cresswell will get back to his best in due course. However that does not mean he should continue to start matches ahead of fan favourite Arthur Masuaku.

The 23-year-old started West Ham’s last match on the bench, watching on as Cresswell failed to have the desired impact at left-back only to prove his own worth in the brief cameo he was afford.

Masuaku came on for the final 16 minutes against Tottenham and he delivered a superb cross for Cheikhou Kouyate to score West Ham’s second goal of the afternoon.

It was a strike that ensured the match was still alive until the final whistle, and while the Hammers ultimately fell short, their second-choice left-back proved he should be starting ahead of Cresswell until the latter justifies his place.

Masuaku played the opening game of the season against Manchester United before being an unused substitute for the next four matches.

He finally got some time off the bench at the weekend and did enough to suggest he should start when West Ham take on Swansea City this weekend.
