The West Ham United youngsters got the chance to impress against Benfica’s next generation.

West Ham United’s Anthony Scully has been speaking to the club’s official website after the under-23s faced Benfica in the Premier League International Cup earlier this week.
The Hammers were already out of the competition but their coach Terry Westley still made the most of it, fielding a young side including schoolboys Will Greenidge and Josh Okotcha.

The two defenders clearly impressed Scully, who was quick to praise the young pair after the final whistle.
“We did well tonight, considering we had two under-16s in Will and Josh starting,” Scully told whufc.com. “They both did brilliant, stepping up and playing at this level.”
This is not the first time the young West Ham duo have been given a chance by Westley and the West Ham under-23 coach clearly rates the youngsters, having initially given Greenidge a chance when he was only 15.

West Ham have some of the best young talent in the country coming through their ranks right now and it is up to new manager David Moyes to ultimately bring them through, assuming he is there past the end of this season.
The future looks bright for the Hammers; it is just up to the current first-team players to pave the way for future stars to break through in the years ahead.
