West Ham’s Andy Carroll has high conversion rate when hitting target

Andy Carroll has been among the goals for West Ham United of late and statistics help to highlight his impressive conversion rate when hitting the target.

Andy Carroll has, over recent weeks, been busy reminding those that were quick to write him off during his injury struggles that he is far from a spent force.

The burly frontman has been back to his unplayable best, with Premier League defences fully aware of his return to fitness.

West Ham United are delighted to have him firing on all cylinders, with the England international offering them something different at the focal point of their attack.

Carroll’s physical presence helps to unnerve opponents, while his ability to dominate in the air allows Sam Allardyce to alter his approach when required – as against Hull City on Sunday.

He is, however, about much more than winning long balls fed into the box.

For a big man, the 26-year-old is impressively assured on the deck and has shown himself to be capable of sniffing out chances.

Any sight of goal he has been getting he has been making the most of, as the Opta statistics below help to highlight.

Carroll’s five goals have come in four outings this season, with each of the efforts he has got on target in those fixtures finding the back of the net.

His radar has been off at times in other appearances, but only five times has he troubled an opposing goalkeeper without being able to beat him.

That bodes well for all concerned, with Carroll looking to maintain his current standards, West Ham hoping he will continue to be a talismanic figure and England boss Roy Hodgson probably considering handing a recall to the former Newcastle United and Liverpool frontman when Euro 2016 qualifying action resumes in March.
