West Ham United striker Dapo Afolayan scored his first goal on loan for Mansfield Town at the weekend.

Afolayan moved on loan to the Stags in the summer and he has had to wait to get on the scoresheet.

He came off the bench at the weekend in a 6-1 victory over Oldham Athletic. He had been on the pitch just six minutes when he scored.

Afolayan also managed to win a penalty after being brought down in the box.

He spoke to Mansfield’s website after the victory. He said: “It’s the best we’ve played since I’ve been here.”

Afolayan’s goal was assisted by former West Ham striker Nicky Maynard, who the club once paid £2.75 million for.

Maynard bagged a hat-trick in the win, showing he has still got it at the age of 32.

Afolayan, 21, thanked Maynard for the pass which set up his goal.

He said: “He did really well. He worked hard to get the ball from the halfway line. I just knew I had to keep myself onside.

“He almost put it too wide for me but luckily I was quick enough to get there!”

This was Afolayan’s first ever Football League goal, and he will hope it is just the start.
