The West Ham United winger faces a prolonged spell on the side-lines just when he had the chance to impress his new boss.
Earlier this week, West Ham United youngster Nathan Holland took to Twitter to confirm he had undergone surgery for a torn hamstring and was now beginning the road to recovery, but the teenager’s setback comes at the worst possible time.
After all, with a new manager at the Hammers in the form of David Moyes – a man used to giving youth a chance and one who has already cast his eye over the club’s next generation – Holland could have got a chance to stake an early claim for a first-team spot.
Instead he could face a few months out of contention, at just the time when the likes of Toni Martinez and Domingos Quina could be mounting challenges of their own.
Holland is widely regarded as one of West Ham’s top young talents and in time he is expected to be a regular in the senior side.
Moyes put his faith in an exciting young winger when he took charge of Manchester United and that player – Adnan Januzaj – proved to be one of the brightest lights in an otherwise disappointing campaign.
Holland could, in time, follow suit, maintaining his progress for the long haul rather than burning brightly for just a single season.
Yet it is a shame that this setback came just when those youngsters West Ham fans have been crying out for could finally get a chance.
