West Ham United are among the clubs interested in signing Martin Braithwaite from Barcelona, according to Sport.
What’s the story?
David Moyes’s West Ham are among four clubs in the Premier League who want to sign Braithwaite.
Norwich City, Burnley and Brighton and Hove Albion are the other teams in England keen on the Denmark international.
Barcelona have told the 30-year-old that he is free to leave.
The former Middlesbrough striker will be behind Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay in the pecking order.
West Ham United linked before
This is not the first time that West Ham have been linked with Braithwaite.
Sport reported in November 2020 that the Hammers were keen on signing Braithwaite from Barcelona in the January transfer window.
Would Braithwaite make West Ham better?
West Ham do need a new striker, but would Braithwaite be the answer?
Probably not.
The Dane – who cost Barcelona €18 million (£15.43 million) in transfer fees in February 2020, according to The London Evening Standard – made 11 starts and 18 substitute appearances in La Liga last season.
The forward scored two goals and have two assists in those games.
Braithwaite also scored three goals and gave one assist in six Champions League appearances.
The striker was said to be “at a great level” by his then Barcelona teammate Luis Suarez – now at Atletico Madrid – in Egypt Today in February 2020, as covered by HITC Sport, but he is 30 now and is not prolific.
