West Ham want Bournemouth’s Harry Arter but would he be an improvement on what they already have in Mark Noble?

Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter has emerged as a January target for newly appointed West Ham United manager David Moyes, according to the Mirror.

Moyes is keen to strengthen in the middle after being named Slaven Bilic’s successor and views Arter as the ideal man to be brought in to do that.

Several different players have been used in central midfield by the Hammers already this season, with captain Mark Noble in particular receiving plenty of criticism for his perceived below par performances.

Yet how does Noble compare to Arter so far in 2017/18? Well both have played seven Premier League matches for their respective sides, but from thereon in statistics seem to favour the West Ham skipper.

Arter slightly edges Noble in pass completion with 88 per cent in comparison to 85 per cent, but going forward the latter has provided far more key passes (six to one) and created far more chances (six to one), while they have both completed three successful take ons.

Defensively the Englishman is slightly superior to his Irish counterpart as well, making 11 tackles compared to eight, suggesting that if Moyes wants to improve his midfield then perhaps the Cherries star won’t actually be better than what he’s already got.
