West Ham United vice-chairman Karren Brady has expressed her hope that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will continue to regularly score goals in 2018.
Kane has enjoyed a stunning 2017. Spurs’ clash against Southampton saw Kane break the record for most Premier League goals in a calendar year, eclipsing Alan Shearer’s previous tally of 36 in a year. And that was not the only landmark to emerge from the emphatic win at Wembley.
The hat-trick Kane scored meant that he ended the year as the most prolific goalscorer for club and country of any player plying their trade in one of Europe’s top leagues.
And, perhaps bizarrely given the rivalry between the two clubs, Hammers vice-chairman Brady has suggested that Kane continuing to score at a record-breaking rate is something that is on her 2018 wishlist.
“I say this not because of Tottenham but because what is good for the No 10 is even better for England in the World Cup.”
Many may well feel that Kane cannot prove as impressive in 2018, but he has rarely failed to prove his doubters wrong when they have written him off achieving something – whether that be getting into the Spurs first-team or sustaining the form that he showed once he had broken into the side.
And with Kane still awaiting his first Premier League goal in the month of August, there are certainly the opportunities available to Kane to make sure that 2018 proves as notable for him as 2017 has done.
