Jermain Defoe will almost certainly leave Sunderland this summer but what where would be his best destination?

Since Sunderland’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed the future of top-scorer Jermain Defoe has been speculated widely.

Although now 34-years-old the striker, who has 15 league goals so far this season, will have plenty of suitors this summer and looks set to leave the Stadium Of Light – but where should he go?

The Telegraph report that the Cherries are planning a double swoop for veteran duo John Terry and Defoe, with the latter having played for the Dorset club back in the early days of his career.

He would fit into Eddie Howe’s style, but would likely be behind Callum Wilson for a place upfront and with his career coming to its close may want more guaranteed first team football.

Sam Allardyce has already openly admitted to Sky Sports that he would be interested in Defoe, a player who he signed for the Black Cats in the first place.

However, it would be a similar story in terms of game time, with club record signing Christian Benteke the undisputed first choice.

This probably wouldn’t be a very popular choice with Sunderland fans, but in truth Defoe could be the experienced solution for Rafael Benitez in attack.

The Sun have linked the forward with the Magpies and while his is similar in style to Dwight Gayle, he is certainly an upgrade to both Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

According to the Daily Star another of Defoe’s former clubs are interested in re-signing him in West Ham and in truth, they and Newcastle are probably the best choices.

The Hammers have Andy Carroll as their focus in attack, but he is both a completely different type of striker and injury-prone, while Michail Antonio has often had to fill in as a makeshift attacker with options limited.
