West Ham United are thought to be considering signing Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe on a free transfer.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, West Ham United could land Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe on a free transfer in the summer.

If Sunderland are relegated they could release the striker on a free, and West Ham are reportedly keen to swoop.

And if Defoe was to sign for the Hammers on a free transfer, it would surely go down as one of the bargains of the summer.

Although the England international is reaching an age where he would have little re-sale value, he would surely guarantee goals.

Defoe has netted 14 goals in the Premier League this season for Sunderland, when he has been starved of service.

It is fair to suggest that he would have more opportunities created for him at West Ham, meaning his potential to score would be far greater.

And, in today’s inflated market, it is hard to imagine such a value-for-money signing as Defoe.

The Sunderland hitman has scored more than Sergio Aguero, Sadio Mane and Eden Hazard this season – who would all cost multi millions of pounds to buy.

And if West Ham do have the chance to secure Defoe’s signature for free, it is surely a no-brainer of a deal for Slaven Bilic to complete.
