Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic should make a move for West Ham United’s James Collins in the summer transfer window.

Celtic have the best squad in the Scottish Premiership and have some of the best players in the division, but there is always room for improvement.

An area that Celtic could improve upon this season is central defence. Kolo Toure’s departure means that a spot has opened up at centre-back in Brendan Rodgers’s team.

Moreover, Dedryck Boyata is injured at the moment with a knee problem, while Erik Sviatchenko was forced off during the Hoops’ Champions League tie against Rosenborg in Norway this week.

Nir Bitton played well at centre-back against Rosenborg, while Celtic manager Rodgers has already stated that left-back Kieran Tierney has the potential to feature as a central defender, as reported by The Daily Mail.

However, it is clear that Celtic could do with a new centre-back this season, and a player they could look to sign is West Ham United’s James Collins.

Now 33, Collins is an established centre-back in the Premier League and has played over 50 matches for the Wales national football team.

The former Aston Villa man is not exactly a ‘great’ centre-back, but the Welshman gets the job done and would be a smart signing for Celtic.

West Ham are a massive club in England and have lofty ambitions for the future, but Collins is not guaranteed a place in Slaven Bilic’s starting lineup, and Celtic should be looking to take advantage of this situation.

Signing Collins would give Celtic a very experienced and good centre-back, and the defender himself would get the chance to win major trophies and perhaps even play in the Champions League.
