West Ham United’s decision to place £30m price tag on Andy Carroll makes no sense

Chelsea are said to be interested in West Ham United’s Andy Carroll, but they should walk away for the price they have been quoted.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, West Ham United have slapped a £30 million asking price on Andy Carroll, amid interest from Chelsea.

West Ham are willing to listen to offers for their striker, but if they are holding out for such a large fee they are surely set to be disappointed.

While exorbitant transfer fees are becoming the norm in football, it is hard to make a justifiable case for charging £30 million for Carroll.

Granted, on his day, Carroll is a major threat in the air and he remains one of the finest target-men in the Premier League.

However, he is now reached the age of 29, he does not seem to be able to stay off the treatment table for any period of time and he has hardly scored prolifically this season.

Carroll has spent six years at West Ham now, but he has never managed to play more than 27 league games in a season.

Carroll also only has two strikes to his name in the top tier this term, in 12 appearances.

At 29 Carroll surely won’t have much re-sale value, if he does sign for Chelsea. And if West Ham are seriously wanting £30 million for the striker, then he is surely going to remain at the London Stadium, as it would be a huge shock if any side agreed to that rather fanciful fee.
