West Ham United could be busy on transfer deadline day.
West Ham United have already tied up eight summer signings, but they may well be in the market for more on transfer deadline day, with Manuel Pellegrini still keen to boost his squad.
The Hammers are in the market for a central midfielder and at least one striker, and here are some of the names West Ham should be keeping tabs on, and the current status of their potential moves to East London.
Lucas Perez
The closest signing for West Ham is that of Lucas Perez, with the Arsenal striker poised to make the move to the London Stadium. As reported by the London Evening Standard, the 29-year-old has undergone a medical ahead of a £5million move to West Ham, and should be confirmed as a West Ham player early today. The striker hit eight goals on loan with hometown club Deportivo La Coruna last season.
Carlos Sanchez
Included in the Standard’s report about Perez is the reported interest in Fiorentina midfielder Carlos Sanchez. The Colombian holding midfielder is wanted as a replacement for Cheikhou Kouyate following his move to Crystal Palace, and the veteran may be making a return to England having previously had a fairly uneventful spell with Aston Villa. At 32, Sanchez may not be what West Ham fans want, but he may well be what they get today.
Maxi Gomez
Another name strongly linked in the hunt for a striker is Celta Vigo ace Maxi Gomez, who hit 17 goals in 36 La Liga games last season, following a move from Defensor Sporting in his native Uruguay. The burly striker, 21, has been heavily touted for a move to West Ham, and El Desmarques in Spain reported on Tuesday that West Ham have activated the £45million release clause in Gomez’s contract – but news of his potential arrival has been thin on the ground ever since.
Danny Drinkwater
If West Ham don’t land Sanchez, then other midfielders will be in the frame for the Hammers, and The Mirror report that Danny Drinkwater is a loan target for Pellegrini. The former Leicester City title winner has found first-team football hard to come by since his big-money move to Chelsea last summer, and the imminent arrival of Mateo Kovacic means that Drinkwater is available, with West Ham potentially ready to sign him.
