After a stunning final season at Upton Park, West Ham United’s start to life at the London Stadium has been less than harmonious. The Hammers have endured a stuttering start to the season, sitting just one place outside the relegation zone after 11 games.

After losing their opening game of the season to rivals Chelsea, the Hammers hosted Bournemouth as they played their first league game at their new stadium.

An 85th minute header from Michail Antonio gave Slaven Bilic’s side victory on home soil.

No home comfort yet again for West Ham, who were knocked out of the Europa League by Romanian champions Astra Giurgiu, whose 1-0 win at the London Stadium put them through to the group stage after a 2-1 aggregate win.

This is the second consecutive season that the Hammers have been knocked out of the competition before the group stage by Astra.

This was their sixth Premier League game of the season. At that stage last season, West Ham had already beaten Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Having gone behind yet again at home, a stunning solo effort from Frenchman Payet rescued a point for the Hammers against Middlesbrough.

The 29-year-old danced his way through the Boro defence before finding the bottom corner.

Having failed to win at home since their opening game against Bournemouth, Winston Reid’s 94th minute strike gave them a 1-0 victory over Sunderland.

Reid’s goal made it back-to-back 1-0 wins for the Hammers, who beat Crystal Palace a week earlier.

While the league was proving a problem for West Ham, Bilic and co have still managed to make their way into the quarter finals of the EFL Cup.

A 2-1 victory over Chelsea put them through to the last eight, but the game was marred by crowd trouble as both sets of supporters clashed after the final whistle.
