West Ham United appear to have a chance of signing Ian Maatsen as he is now unsure about staying with Chelsea.

Ian Maatsen is stalling on the idea of a new Chelsea contract because West Ham United want to sign him.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Maatsen is now ‘unsure’ about extending his time with Chelsea.

The London Evening Standard reported earlier in August that Maatsen was in talks over a new deal to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino was trying to convince Maatsen that he could feature in the Chelsea first team moving forward.

No deal has been done yet and Maatsen is now thought to be stalling on the idea of committing his future to the Blues.

West Ham’s interest is a major factor whilst Borussia Dortmund are also interested in the Dutchman.

Maatsen now has much to think about, but time is running out if he wants to leave Chelsea before the transfer deadline.

West Ham United may need Aaron Cresswell exit in order to sign Ian Maatsen

Maatsen is certainly an exciting talent.

The 21-year-old was excellent on loan at Burnley last season and impressed in pre-season with Chelsea.

The key for Maatsen now is to prioritise playing time – and that may not come with the Blues.

Mauricio Pochettino has both Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella at his disposal, making it very difficult for Maatsen to get into the team.

A departure may seriously appeal to Maatsen but West Ham may need to offload somebody first.

David Moyes also has two left backs at his disposal with Emerson Palmieri and Aaron Cresswell at the London Stadium.

Emerson appears to be first-choice right now with Cresswell potentially leaving for another Premier League club.

West Ham would surely need to get that deal sorted in order to convince Maatsen to sign given that he would be giving up on his Chelsea chances.
