Tottenham Hotspur gave Gillingham a good thrashing in the EFL Cup this week, Spurs winning 5-0. The game also gave manager Mauricio Pochettino a chance to blood some of his young talent.

The likes of Anton Walkes, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Marcus Edwards all made their debuts in the game.

The excitement around Edwards’ Tottenham bow made not only Spurs fans very happy, but also a young talent at London rivals West Ham United.

Reece Oxford knows Edwards from youth international football and the West Ham talent had this simple message for the Spurs star on Twitter:

Oxford and Edwards are both young talents who have had to deal with some fairly massive comparisons.

The West Ham talent has seen himself compared to Rio Ferdinand in recent times and is clearly a top defensive talent for the future.

Edwards has found himself compared to an even bigger name. The talented attacker has had his playing style compared to that of Barcelona legend Lionel Messi and will now have a challenge on his hands trying to live up to that hype.

Spurs and West Ham fans will no doubt hope both can live up to their potential.
