The 28-year-old was left out of Gareth Southgate’s most recent England squad, despite good form this season.

When Gareth Southgate’s England squad was announced, give or take the odd inclusion, it was fairly routine – and further highlighted that it seems West Ham United striker Andy Carroll can’t do anything to force his way back in.

The 28-year-old striker has been in red good form for the Hammers this season, with six Premier League goals coming in just 14 appearances, with only injuries preventing further goals.

However, it seems that Carroll’s powerful goalscoring threat has been overlooked yet again, with Southgate citing a lack of playing time as his main reason for not picking him, as reported by Sky Sports, despite Carroll completing 90 minutes in both of his matches for West Ham since his return from injury.

Considering England have a friendly – albeit against world champions Germany – and a World Cup qualifier against Lithuania, which will be a very routine England win irrespective of who’s on the pitch, now was the time to try different players.

Southgate has bizarrely elected to go with three strikers in Marcus Rashford, who has seven club goals in all competitions for Manchester United, and could have easily gone to the U21’s, Jermain Defoe, who – despite excellent form this season – hasn’t scored in over a month, and Jamie Vardy. who has nine goals in all competitions.

None of those players offer the same attacking threat that Carroll possesses, and yet still the Hammer isn’t given a chance. The upcoming matches would have been a perfect time to give him another opportunity to impress.
