West Ham United are set to sign free agent Aaron Cresswell.

West Ham United feeling the need to sign Patrice Evra shows just how poor Aaron Cresswell has been this season.

Evra is set to move to the London Stadium later today, according to Sky Sports, as David Moyes has felt the need to strengthen at left-back.

West Ham would surely have felt confident going into the season with Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku competing for a spot on the left-hand side of their defence.

But Masuaku’s better form has come in a more advanced role, and Cresswell has seriously under-performed this term.

The former Ipswich Town man was one of West Ham’s top performers, but an injury appears to have knocked him off track.

Cresswell has looked a shadow of his former self this term, and has faced fierce criticism from Hammers fans.

And the fact that Moyes has felt the need to bring in Evra is surely a sign that he feels Cresswell has been poor.

If Moyes had full faith in Cresswell, there would have been little need to sign a 36-year-old full-back on a free transfer.

But Evra may just take Cresswell’s place in West Ham’s starting line-up, and that would be a reflection of how under-par the English full-back’s performances have been this term.
