West Ham United are believed to be interested in signing Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater in January.

According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United could be interested in Danny Drinkwater of Chelsea in January, but that deal would go against Manuel Pellegrini’s public comments.

With Jack Wilshere out injured again, Pellegrini was asked yesterday if West Ham wanted a midfielder.

But he said to the Daily Mirror that West Ham weren’t interested in adding a midfielder in January.

“It is not a priority because we already have players in that position,” he admitted.

Of course, Pellegrini’s comments could have been to throw other clubs off the scent.

But it would be a surprise of West Ham did now sign a central midfielder in January.

Drinkwater has not featured at all this term, and for him to get up to speed in time to make an impact at the London Stadium this season would be a challenge.

West Ham already have plenty of options to play in centre of the pitch, with Mark Noble, Pedro Obiang and Declan Rice all comfortable with starting in the position.

And it may be that the links to Drinkwater are wide of the mark, as West Ham seemingly have other targets in mind ahead of the January transfer window.
