West Ham United had looked to be set to lose out to Bournemouth in the race for Jermain Defoe.

According to the Daily Star, Bournemouth are re-considering moving for Jermain Defoe, due to his wage demands.

Defoe is demanding £80,000-a-week to move from Sunderland, and that would make him one of Bournemouth’s highest paid players of all time.

Eddie Howe’s side did look to have a deal wrapped up, but they are now said to be contemplating backing out.

And West Ham United should reignite their interest, if they are serious about wanting to sign Defoe.

West Ham were heavily linked with Defoe earlier in the summer by Sky Sports, but failed to get a deal over the line.

However, with West Ham willing to pay £130,000-a-week to Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud according to the Daily Mirror, Defoe surely should be an option again.

Defoe may be older than Giroud, but neither would have much re-sale value, and the former is much cheaper.

Defoe is available on a free transfer, and his wage demands are £50,000-a-week cheaper than Giroud’s.

And if West Ham are looking to add an experience and proven Premier League goalscorer, then Defoe should come back on to Slaven Bilic’s radar.
