West Ham United should consider swooping for the Everton target.
Gianluca Di Marzio reported this week that Everton were preparing a £22.5 million move for Fiorentina striker Nikola Kalinic.
But should West Ham United look to hijack the move?
West Ham have, of course, already signed Javier Hernandez and although the Mexican is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, he won’t lift the Irons to new heights on his own.
He has the likes of Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho and Andre Ayew as competition, but neither of those are good enough to help the Hammers move up a level. Carroll and Sakho, in particular, certainly can’t be relied on, given their injury history.
Kalinic, on the other hand, is good enough.
The Croatia international, who played under Slaven Bilic for his country, netted 24 goals in 35 starts for club and country last season and he’d certainly add something to their attack.
Everton, who only have the unproven Sandro Ramirez and the aging Wayne Rooney as goalscoring options, won’t give him up without a fight, but Bilic’s history with Kalinic might be a big advantage.
West Ham are linked with a big-money move for William Carvalho, and there wouldn’t be enough resources available to Bilic to sign both.
It comes down to whether the Croat feels he needs a defensive midfielder more than an another striker. Time will tell.
