West Ham United should be looking to land Callum McGregor.
Celtic lost Moussa Dembele to Lyon on deadline day in August, and may now face major interest in one of their top players come January.
The Sun on Sunday (09/12; page 57) report that Bournemouth are interested in snapping up midfielder Callum McGregor from the Bhoys, with a £10million fee mentioned.
McGregor, 25, has become a key player for Celtic under Brendan Rodgers, and has notched an impressive four goals and six assists so far this term.
Whilst Bournemouth appear to be leading the race, one team who should be looking to land McGregor is West Ham United – especially at a budget-friendly £10million.
West Ham attempted to boost their midfield by signing Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez over the summer, but both are injured, and bringing more quality into midfield should be a priority.
The great thing about McGregor is his versatility. Capable of playing as a holding midfielder, central midfielder, attacking midfielder or even wide, McGregor could fit any number of roles in Pellegrini’s system, whilst being able to produce real quality in each role.
McGregor still has his best years ahead of him and has developed rapidly over the last two years, and £10million would be an absolute snip.
Instead of going for a player whose best years are behind them, like Wilshere and Sanchez, West Ham should be looking to an in-form, versatile talent like McGregor – and they must rival Bournemouth for his signature in January.
