West Ham United are said to be interested in signing Antonio Valencia in January.

West Ham United should avoid moving for Antonio Valencia in the January transfer window.
West Ham currently have Pablo Zabaleta, who is ageing, and Ryan Fredericks, who has struggled since joining, competing to play on the right-hand side of their defence.
Valencia is a name who has cropped up on their list of potential signings, but Pellegrini should look elsewhere.
Valencia may well improve West Ham’s defence until the end of the season, but by bringing him in they would hardly be solving their current problem.

Zabaleta needs replacing for the long-term, but Valencia is 33, and also reaching the twilight of his career.
By bringing the Red Devils man in, West Ham would simply be papering over the cracks.
And Pellegrini and his scouts need to find a younger target who they can rely on for the years ahead, rather than moving for Valencia in the new year.
