West Ham United are now considered favourites to sign West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.

That’s according to The Sun (12/12, p64), who claim that West Ham are the favourites to sign Johnstone.

West Brom were allegedly keen to sell Johnstone in next month’s transfer window. The problem is that Johnstone wants to wait until the summer to leave.

Johnstone becomes a free agent at the end of the season and seemingly wants his pick of the clubs.

Southampton and Tottenham both want Johnstone too. Calciomercato even claim that Newcastle are in the mix.

Yet as things stand, it looks like West Ham are at the front of the queue.

Tottenham target Johnstone could be West Ham’s next number one

With Hugo Lloris out of contract next summer, Tottenham may have seen Johnstone as a bargain.

Hailed as ‘outstanding’ by Glenn Hoddle, England international Johnstone is appealing as a free transfer.

West Ham may see Johnstone as their future number one though. Lukasz Fabianski turns 37 in April and Alphonse Areola is only on loan.

Johnstone doesn’t hit his 30’s until the back end of next season, so he has plenty in the tank.

David Moyes has great ties to Preston, and Johnstone was born in and played for – you guessed it – Preston.

You can certainly understand these rumours then, and beating Tottenham to Johnstone could be a real coup for West Ham.
