West Ham United’s reported hopes of signing West Bromwich Albion loanee Matheus Pereira will suffer a blow today.

Football.London reported in April that West Ham hold an interest in Pereira, who joined West Brom on loan from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2019.

The 24-year-old winger has been superb for the Baggies, and has been an important player in their ongoing quest to clinch automatic promotion to the Premier League.

According to WhoScored, the winger has made 29 starts and four substitute appearances in the Championship for West Brom so far this season, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists in the process.

One can understand why West Ham – who could get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season – are reportedly interested in the winger, but it seems that the Premier League club are set to suffer a disappointment in their quest to sign him.

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has said that if the winger plays against Birmingham City at The Hawthorns in the Championship this afternoon, then it will trigger a permanent signing for £8.25 million, as reported by The Telegraph.

Bilic told The Birmingham Mail: “He will become our player if he plays on Saturday – that is very likely to happen, of course, unless something crazy happens on Friday. But definitely we are delighted that it is happening.”

Meanwhile, according to Sky Sports, Schalke are interested in signing Jeremy Ngakia, who is out of contract at West Ham at the end of the month and is set to leave the London club on a free transfer.
