West Ham United are interested in signing Alfie Mawson from Swansea City in the January transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

It has been reported that West Ham manager David Moyes has identified the signing of a central defender as a priority, and that he is ready to make a move for Mawson in January.

Swansea, who are struggling for survival in the Premier League at the moment, could demand up to £25 million as transfer fee for the 23-year-old centre-back, according to the report.

“It is understood Swansea are in talks with Mawson over a new contract, with 18 months remaining on his present deal, and the club are determined to keep him despite their perilous position in the table,” states the report in The Telegraph.

Mawson is a very good central defender who has proven himself in the Premier League.

This is not the first time that former Manchester United manager Moyes has been linked with a move for the former England Under-21 international.

The Daily Mail reported back in August 2016 that Moyes, then in charge of Sunderland, wanted to sign Mawson.

It was reported at the time that Sunderland made a bid of £3 million for the defender when he was at Barnsley.

The former Brentford prospect left Barnsley for Swansea in the summer of 2016 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £5.5 million.
