West Ham United co-chairman David Gold confirmed on Twitter yesterday that goalkeeper Darren Randolph had joined Middlesbrough for £5 million.
Joe Hart’s arrival at West Ham this week was always going to offset the departure of either Randolph or Adrian, though The Mail reported that the Spaniard could also leave.
The Republic of Ireland international joined the Irons on a Bosman two years ago after his Birmingham City contract expired, meaning that Gold and his collleagues effectively made a £5 million profit on the 30-year-old keeper.
That is the latest shrewd bit of business for the East Londoners, who have signed Joe Hart on loan – with Manchester City paying half of his wages – and Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic are set to follow in big-money deals.
And West Ham fans took a moment to praise Gold for getting so much money for Randolph, who started 28 Premier League games in two seasons.
