West Ham United are looking into the possibility of a short-term deal for free agent playmaker Jesse Lingard.

Jesse Lingard is training with West Ham United and a short-term deal is being explored for the free agent.

That is according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, who claims that West Ham are assessing a potential deal for Lingard.

It’s stated that Lingard continues to train with West Ham as he looks to find himself a new club this summer.

The primary idea here is for Lingard to just focus on his fitness and get himself ready to play again.

Yet it’s now suggested that West Ham are at least looking into the possibility of handing Lingard a contract.

Sheth claims it’s just a ‘short-term’ deal being explored with West Ham thinking about an East London return for Lingard.

That may be a deal just for the season or even only until January with West Ham seemingly considering their options.

Jesse Lingard has struggled since West Ham heroics

Lingard arguably had the best run of his career in West Ham shirt.

David Moyes pounced to sign Lingard in January 2021, taking him on loan for the second half of the season.

That proved to be an unbelievable move as Lingard ran riot, smashing nine goals and four assists in just 16 appearances for West Ham.

Lingard became a hero in East London but he still couldn’t nail down consistent minutes for Manchester United.

Lingard chose to leave United at the end of his contract last summer but instead of returning to West Ham, he ended up joining Nottingham Forest instead.

That move really didn’t work out with Lingard making just 12 Premier League starts last season as his one-year deal expired quietly.

Now a free agent, the 30-year-old will be desperate to find his best form again and that may lead him back to Moyes.

Whether that would get Lingard back on track remains to be seen, but the former England ace may well believe it’s the move he needs – and the move he should have made over a year ago.
